14.5.1 Bayonet cap lampholder adaptors
A mass of 3.2 kg for B22 lampholder adaptors or 1.8 kg for B15 lampholder adaptors shall be applied in the vertical position to the bayonet pins at 90° to their axis with the lampholder adaptor body securely retained in position. The force shall not be applied to the attachment cord (if any).
NOTE: This test may be applied when the lampholder adaptor is assembled to a lampholder
The test period shall be 48 h and shall be conducted in an ambient temperature of 20 ±5°C.
At the conclusion of the test, the bayonet pins shall not have deformed such that entry to and withdrawal from a lampholder is not possible and the bayonet pins shall not have fractured.
14.5.2 Edison screw lampholder adaptors
Edison screw lampholder adaptor shall pass the mechanical strength test as follows:A force is applied for 1 min. by means of a mass of 5 kg, along the lampholder axis.
At the conclusion of the test the adapter thread shall not have deformed such that entry to and withdrawal from a lampholder is not possible and the body of the adapter shall not have fractured.
NOTE: This test may be applied when the lampholder adaptor is assembled to a lampholder.
14.5.3 All other lampholder adaptors
All other lampholder adaptors shall pass the mechanical strength test as follows.
(a) A force as specified in the relevant lampholder standard or 5 kg whichever is the lesser is applied along the lampholder adaptor axis for 1 min.
(b) The force shall not be applied to the attachment cord (if any).
At the conclusion of the test the lampholder adapter cap shall not have deformed such that entry to and withdrawal from a lampholder is not possible and the body of the adapter shall not have fractured.
NOTE: This test may be applied when the lampholder adaptor is assembled to a lampholder.
14.6 Determination of ignitability and combustion propagation
Lampholder adaptors shall comply with the requirements for resistance to heat fire and tracking in accordance with AS/NZS 3100. The glow-wire test temperature ‘T’ shall be 750°C.
